I usually do not get jet lag very badly. This time, however, it has been brutal: I’ve not been able to fall asleep until after 4AM each of the last three nights. Tonight, I’ll settle for 1AM!

Greetings from the Red Carpet Club at Los Angeles International Airport. The flight home was about 90 minutes shorter, and it seemed to go by much faster. The food was worse than usual, and I still can’t find a comfortable way to sleep fully reclined in United’s business class seats - compared to American’s where […]

I flew Qantas back from Ayers Rock yesterday. The plane was about 85% full in economy, but business was virtually empty. Out of a possible 12 seats, there was me, and an older Australian couple who booked a weekend away at the last minute and were shocked (!) to find out that Ayers Rock would […]

The alarm clock went off at the ungodly time of 3:30 this morning. In retrospect, I could have probably slept another 45 minutes, but I could not remember if I had an advance seat assignment on my JetStar flight from Melbourne to Hobart. I had packed the night before, so it was pretty quick to […]

I ended up being just really tired during the morning on Wednesday, and never made it to Darlinghurst. I just wandered around some of the area east of the hotel, including Hyde Park, stopped and got some Indian curry chicken and chick peas for lunch, and then changed and hung out in the Executive […]

After the adventure involved in getting to Los Angeles, the actual flight from LA to Sydney was a breeze. The only little scare was that they forgot to turn on the in-flight seat power to the upper deck, and I had to remind the flight attendent to do so.
United’s 747s are old and ratty, but […]

Greetings from Sydney. It’s 6:30pm local time, and I’m trying to stay awake for another 90 minutes before calling it a night. I will write more tomorrow when I have a more stable internet connection. But:
The flights were uneventful, which is how I like it. I got 3 hours of sleep about 1/4 way through the […]

Yes, you read that correctly. I called United to find out how long my Chicago-LA flight was really going to be delayed, and they offered me a routing Chicago-Sacramento-LA, same plane both legs, leaving at 3pm instead of 6:30pm. With an exit row. Needless to say, I took it. I managed to get upgraded at […]

The snowstorm was pretty harsh last night, and it was right around 6:30pm. Last night’s version of my flight left 3 hours late, but the flight to get to Sydney via San Francisco left on time. What a crapshoot. Tonight’s flight is already half an hour late.
