Salvaging Sydney
Jan 6th, 2008 by Nick
Another day’s worth of medications seems to have done the trick, and I’m feeling much better today. Still not good enough to go walk for three miles, but enough that I think I can go for a light stroll for dinner tonight.
I’m switching hotels this afternoon. The Four Points is ok, but it is not convenient. So I am burning some of my stash of Hilton points and spending the next two nights at the Hilton Sydney, which is right in the middle of everything on George Street. I’d like to spend Tuesday and Wednesday AM exploring different neighborhoods. Since I have a transit pass, I think the easiest approach is just to take buses from area to area and minimize my walking for a few more days.
I remember going to the Sydney Hilton bar back in ‘00 — at that time it was a semi-enclosed room accessible through an open-air escalator from the street. I was wearing a Missouri shirt and ended up drinking with a local who had played rugby at Northeast Missouri State (now known as Truman State).
When I told him they changed the name of the school, he said, “It’ll always be NEMO to me, mate.” Good times.
I’m looking forward to tonight’s restaurant review.
Don’t forget to catch us up on what you’ve been eating.
OR not eating. Vegemite on Saltines in the room?
