Well THAT was fun…

Eight hours in the emergency room… it took five hours to get in and see somebody, but the difference in going to leading teaching hospital (St. Vincent’s) was significant and I feel much better about the situation.
As I’ve had difficulty in the past with spiking a serious fever when flying with a sinus infection (almost 104) I’ve been advised not to fly tomorrow. Fortunately, the resort at Ayers Rock was very helpful in changing my reservation, and I managed to get an award seat there out of Melbourne on Sunday the 20th, returning the 22nd. Assuming that this is bacterial and just needs a couple of days to straighten itself out, I’ll fly straight to Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon. In theory I can be reimbursed for trip cancellation and delays, but the net is only going to be one award redeposit fee on American and one change fee to reuse Melbourne-Sydney as Sydney-Melbourne instead.
So the net loss from a sightseeing perspective is most of the rest of Sydney, including the Blue Mountains tour and the Taronga Zoo. I’m planning on staying in today and most of tomorrow other than poking out for dinner. Then if I feel well, I’ll do the Opera House tour on Tuesday and get my legs back.
