City of Sydney’s Self-Guided Walking Tours
Apr 19th, 2007 by Nick
The city of Sydney has developed a set of eight self-guided walking tours with various themes. Each tour is designed to take less than two hours. Some of the topics are on the silly side, but the Colony, Heritage, and Community walks seem interesting. The Heritage tour is a candidate for my first afternoon in Sydney.
I am a big fan of exploring cities on foot, and an even bigger fan of guided walking tours. London Walks is the gold standard of these tours: show up at a subway stop or tourist office, pay your fee (GBP 6), and learn about an aspect of the city from a local.
I am also starting to look for podcast tours for my trusty iPod Nano, but I have not gotten very far on that topic.
I think self-guided walking tours are full of surprises… which means big adventure! thanks for sharing… =D
Hi Nick
Pod tours are definitely a great invention and I used them when travelling in Europe, Paris and Madrid. I got so enthused I set about creating some for Australia and when you get a chance you might like to check out the site. There are a mixture of paid and free tours.
If you are heading to Sydney then you may want to check out Talk’N Tours Sydney City Sightseeing Pod Tour or The Rocks, Birthplace of Modern Australia Pod Tour Each of the tours is very extensively researched.
and in Melbourne
Marvellous Melbourne Pod Tour covers the major city sights and for a free tour of Melbourne’s Laneways the blog has an excellent free one.
I would love some feedback from you if you take any of the tours.
Regards
Greg
Are you still going in Australia in 2008? You didn’t update that website for more that six months.
Anyway, I am going in Australia in 2008. I just can’t wait.
So Nick, why don’t you spring for a Microphone and do a walking podcast for us? It would save you a bunch of typing.
