Eating a bush tucker?
Apr 4th, 2007 by Nick
Benjamin Christie is a young Australian celebrity chef who’s blog I came across while searching MyBlogLog for Australian-themed blogs. One of the interesting posts on his blog is about “bush tucker” restaurants. Ok, now that got me curious…
It turns out that “bush tucker” is another way of saying “native Australian” and using ingredients indiginous to Australia. Mr. Christie lists ingredients such as “wattleseed, riberries, rosella, Lemon Aspen, Lemon Myrtle, Sprinkle and Alpine pepper.” Since I had no idea what any of those items were, I followed a link to an Outback Degustation Menu from an upscale restaurant called Deep Blue Bistro in suburban Sydney. The menu features crocodile carpaccio, chargrilled emu, and “wild thyme infused olive oil poached kangaroo.” I am not that adventurous.
When you think of “australian food,” what comes to mind?
