Using OneSuite to call home from Australia
Apr 9th, 2007 by Nick
OneSuite is a reseller of long distance “calling card” services, except that the calling card has been replaced with a web browser. I have been using OneSuite for about four years for my international trips. Now that I have Skype on my laptop, I will not use OneSuite as much. But using OneSuite to call home from a foreign country is still often a great option when you are not able to fire up the laptop.
OneSuite works best when you are in a country with one of two situations:
- OneSuite has a toll-free number which you can use from your hotel (but be careful of hotels which charge a fee for connecting to a toll free number); or
- You are in a country where domestic calls from a prepaid GSM phone to a non-GSM phone are inexpensive (for me, that is less than US$0.10/minute).
Australia falls into the first category. The OneSuite access number is toll-free, and from there it costs about US$0.08-$0.09 to call the USA, Canada, or (non-mobile) UK. You manage your account onilne, with the ability set up speed-dial numbers, view call history and charges, and recharge your account with Visa, MasterCard, or PayPal.
At less than US$3 for a half-hour call home, I would not bother with Skype unless I am already online on a very good internet connection, or at a hotel where they charge a surcharge for even toll-free calls.
I completely agree with you Nick. Just like Nick, I’ve been a Onesuite convert for a few years now and most of the time I got very good services with them. A few times a year I experienced common little problems so I need to call their customer support (by the way they got 24/7 live customer service) or email them and they got very good customer service too.
I really save a ton on phone bills ever since I started using Onesuite but best of all, you know you got reliable service and you don’t even need to be tie with them or pay monthly fees whatsoever.
Been to Australia this year to watch the Formula 1 in Melbourne and what an experience it was. The people are very friendly and the cars (first time I watched live) was so loud!
I also used Onesuite for calling back home using their voip service. I was actually surprised with the good quality considering the internet connection I got in Australia was not that good.
You are right about Skype, unless you don’t have any other choice you would rather use something else. Onesuite is a good choice as I used it before when I’m still working outside the country and 95 percent of my calls are crisp and clear.
